Homes with Hope food drive was a great success! While making their donations, Mr. Elgin and his wife enjoyed meeting and talking with all those great men and women that contributed to this program. You can make donations to Homes with Hope online by clicking here: https://www.hwhct.org/donate
Selectman candidate TJ Elgin has announced the charities he will be shaving his beard for! Mr. Elgin has been growing his beard for many months and plans to shave it next month to help great local and national causes. The pandemic has hindered normal fund-raising programs; Mr. Elgin's goal is to raise $1,000, which will go directly to Homes with Hope in Westport to help our local homeless. Mr. Elgin will also be donating his beard to Matter of Trust, which uses beard hair to soak up oil spills to protect our oceans! Please consider donating using our GoFundMe page https://gofund.me/94c9ba67
In the news! Second Selectman candidate Louis D'Onofrio was recently mentioned in the CT Post, as he has been taking legal action to help overcome local health department mismanagement. Dr. D'Onofrio attributes his attempts to making health department improvements as his reason for running for second selectman. He believes that Westport needs residents with ethical intentions, not career politicians. Westport First Selectman candidate TJ Elgin and Second Selectman candidate Louis D'Onofrio have been unanimously selected by the Fairfield County Libertarian Party chapter as their Westport election representatives! Mr. Elgin states "It is an honor to represent such a fine organization that is in support of liberty. The party has grown so much over the past few years and to have so much support is incredible".
Leading the Polls!
TJ Elgin and Louis D'Onofrio are leading several polls!
A third party has recently started internet polls asking the below questions:
Increased Website Traffic!
From the month of August to September, VoteWestport.com website traffic increased by 2,000%! We are thankful for all of our supporters and hope this number also reflects our voters this November! After reviewing the website traffic during a recent meeting, Mr. Elgin stated, "the increased interest in our website speaks volumes to the Town's interest in real change."
Mr. Elgin will be participating in two Selectmen debates. The first debate debate, being run by the Chamber of commerce, will be on Tuesday October 12th at noon.
The other debate, presented by the League of Women Voters of Westport, will be Monday, October 25, 2021, from 7-9 PM at the Westport Town Hall Auditorium. On Tuesday, October 26 Second Selectman candidate Louis D'Onofrio Jr. will be speaking.
K-6 voluntary COVID-19 student testing:
On the morning of September 15, 2021 the Westport Public School Supervisor of Health Services, Suzanne Levasseur, emailed all parents asking them to volunteer their children into “pooled” COVID-19 testing. If one of the pooled students is positive, the entire pooled sample stays out of school. Mr. Elgin claims “this is a slippery slope. Once they start this testing, they will force asymptomatic children, some with and some without COVID-19, to miss school. Once the school is allowed to introduce this, it is only a matter of time before testing becomes mandated.” Mr. Elgin also states, “We need to follow science and not politics.” Per the CDC, “multiple studies have shown that transmission within school settings is typically lower than – or at least similar to – levels of community transmission, when prevention strategies are in place in schools” Moreover, “Detection of cases in schools does not necessarily mean that transmission occurred in schools. The majority of cases that are acquired in the community and are brought into a school setting result in limited spread inside schools when multiple layered prevention strategies are in place.” Science Brief: Transmission of SARS-CoV-2 in K-12 Schools and Early Care and Education Programs - Updated | CDC We need to stop trying to recklessly spend taxpayer money and focus on providing appropriate education to students.”
